The Legacy of the Masters of Arms (14th-15th Centuries)

Inspired by late European longswords (late 14th – 15th century), the Brune-Lame adopts the codes of chivalric weapons: straight cross guard , elongated handle for the hand-and-a-half, and fuller blade designed to combine rigidity and lightness.
Its name evokes a weapon of noble simplicity: a straight, faithful blade, sheathed in thick brown leather like the scabbards used by the guilds of armorers of the time.

Forging & manufacturing

The choice of 1060 steel was not accidental. This medium carbon steel (0.60% carbon) offers the perfect balance between impact resistance, cutting ability, and ease of maintenance. Unlike steels that are too hard and break, or too soft and bend, hot-tempered 1060 absorbs energy while maintaining a formidable cutting edge.

The manufacturing process:

• Controlled thermal hardening : the blade is heated and then cooled to achieve optimal hardness (HRC 50-55)
• Satin polishing : a hand-finished surface that reveals the purity of the steel and eliminates any imperfections.
• Central fuller : lightens the blade by 20 to 30% without sacrificing structural rigidity, shifting the balance point towards the guard for quick handling
• Full tang construction : the blade passes completely through the handle and is riveted to the pommel, guaranteeing absolute strength even during dynamic striking.

The result? A 91.3 cm blade with surgical geometry, balanced, responsive, ready for tatami cutting, HEMA training or display worthy of a collection.

Sheath in genuine handcrafted brown leather (96.5 cm)
A hardwood core covered in tanned brown leather, with metal reinforcements at the mouth and tip. The crossed straps allow for authentic medieval wear on a belt or baldric. A sheath that protects, integrates seamlessly with your historical gear, and enhances the overall understated aesthetic.

Cross guard (28 cm)
Slightly curved, straight quillons made of stainless steel offer effective hand protection against opponent's slips. Their width also allows for leverage techniques ( Halbschwert ) taught in treatises by fencing masters such as Fiore dei Liberi and Johannes Liechtenauer.

One-and-a-half hand grip (23 cm)
A fine wood core sheathed in hand-stitched brown leather. This length allows for:

• One-handed grip for quick thrusting or carrying in a scabbard
• Hand-and-a-half grip for more cutting power
• Two-handed grip for heavy strikes and control in bind

The brown tanned leather provides a natural grip, even during prolonged effort, and ages beautifully over time.

Polished Metal "Pear" Style Knob
