The Spirit of the Koi: When Strength Meets Elegance
"Aonami Nishikigoi" (青波錦鯉) unites two powerful symbols of Japanese culture: the powerful blue waves crashing against the shore, and the koi carp, an ancient emblem of perseverance and courage. Legend has it that a koi that swims up the waterfall becomes a dragon—a perfect metaphor for this wakizashi, forged to accompany your martial arts journey.
📜Description
A Blade Forged for Action
1060 Carbon Steel: The Ideal Compromise Our 1060 carbon steel blade (0.60% carbon) represents the optimal choice for a high-performance training saber:
- Exceptional resilience: absorbs shocks without breaking during repeated cuts
- Long-lasting cutting edge: maintains its sharpness even after heavy use
- Optimal hardness: 55-58 HRC on the edge after professional sharpening (total range 30-58 HRC)
Traditional Hand Polishing
Each blade undergoes meticulous hand polishing, creating a satin-mirror finish that captures light like the foam of waves. This artisanal technique guarantees:
- A razor-sharp edge suitable for cutting tatami and bamboo
- A smooth surface that makes maintenance easier
- A refined aesthetic that highlights the lines of the sword
Blue Wavy Hamon: The Visible Soul
The decorative blue hamon evokes aonami waves with its hypnotic undulations. This artistic temper line (achieved through polishing and surface treatment) adds a unique visual dimension without altering the mechanical properties of the solid blade (without a bohi/groove).
A Mount That Tells a Story
Silver Saya with Koi Motif: The Art of the Sheath
The silver-lacquered hardwood scabbard features a magnificent koi carp motif created using water transfer. This modern technique allows for a durable and detailed decoration evoking the movement of water. The blue sageo (scabbard cord) harmoniously complements this aquatic palette.
Tsuka: Secure Handling
The 24 cm handle offers a comfortable grip thanks to:
- A textured faux leather covering imitating same (traditional stingray skin)
- A durable, traditional and functional polyester ito braid
- A length suitable for two hands or a single grip depending on the techniques
Koshirae: Quality Fillings
- Tsuba (hand guard): protects the hand, zinc alloy plated with a simple design
- Fuchi & Kashira (cuff rings and pommel): coordinated metal finishes
- Habaki (blade ring): forged brass ensuring a perfect fit in the saya
- Full tang construction: the silk thread passes completely through the handle for maximum strength
