Named Shinobi , this sword pays homage to the silent operations of the Iga and Kōga clans. With its black blade, square tsuba, and matte scabbard equipped with a needle holder, everything about it exudes stealth. Hand-forged, it is suitable for collecting, supervised training, and traditional cutting, depending on the version chosen (sharpened or unsharpened).
📜 Description
Genesis & Ninja Philosophy
The Shinobi transcends the simple replica to become a modern interpretation of the legendary ninjatō. Every element of its design meets a single requirement: absolute invisibility, formidable efficiency, and a complete absence of superfluity. Its all-black finish eliminates any revealing reflections, while its unusual square tsuba breaks with the conventions of the traditional katana to embrace the raw geometry of clandestine weapons.
The needle holder attached to the saya is more than just an aesthetic detail: it evokes the discreet arsenal of the shinobi, those masters of infiltration who transformed every object into a strategic tool. The 12 stainless steel needles and their decorative parallel tube are reminiscent of the senbon needles used for precision strikes during nighttime missions in feudal Japan.
Contemporary creation inspired by the ninja universe – This piece does not claim to reproduce a specific historical artifact, but captures the tactical spirit and clean aesthetic that defined the weapons of elite clans.
Traditional Forging & Metallurgy
Forged entirely by hand using a single-piece process, the Shinobi is born from a 45# carbon steel bar subjected to repeated cycles of heating, hammering, and controlled cooling. This time-honored method guarantees a homogeneous molecular structure and exceptional resilience to the stresses of cutting.
The matte black finish : Unlike traditional finishes that reveal the hamon (temper line), the Shinobi blade receives a black plating followed by a dark, mirror-like polish. This deliberate choice produces a surface that absorbs light rather than reflecting it – the metallurgical embodiment of ninja stealth.
Two configurations to suit your needs:
- Sharpened version (razor edge) : Intended for experienced practitioners of traditional martial arts (iaido, kenjutsu, battōjutsu). Capable of slicing through braided rice straw, bamboo, and soft targets during supervised tameshigiri sessions. Requires technical mastery and strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Unsharpened version : Designed for dojo training (kata, demonstrations), private collections, and high-quality cosplay. Maintains authentic balance and weight while eliminating the risks associated with sharp edges.
Frames & Aesthetic Architecture
The saya (scabbard) : Carved from solid wood and then coated with a deep matte black lacquer that resists scratches and handling marks. Its distinctive feature is the integrated decorative needle holder , equipped with 12 stainless steel needles and a parallel tube – powerful visual elements that transform the scabbard into a narrative work of art (for aesthetic use only, not functional for projection).
The tsuka (handle) : A hardwood frame wrapped in a black genuine leather braid (ito), using the hineramaki technique, which ensures a non-slip grip even during dynamic handling. The matching black sageo (cord) allows for traditional attachment to the obi belt. Its 28 cm length is calibrated for a balanced two-handed grip, optimally distributing force during cuts.
Zinc alloy fittings : All metal components (kashira, fuchi, menuki) feature a uniform black finish, maintaining complete color consistency. The square tsuba is the visual signature of the Shinobi – its angular geometry contrasts sharply with classic round guards, evoking the tactical innovation of ninja warriors.
