Like the Pacific Ocean under the moon, this wakizashi captures the spirit of the Japanese night: its deep ebony hilt and black lacquered scabbard convey the mysteries of ancient seas. Every glance delves into the soul of the traditional Japanese sword.

📜 Description

The Short Soul of the Warrior

Aonamidraws inspiration from the aesthetics of samurai short swords. In feudal Japan, the wakizashiwas not just a simple backup sword. Worn at the left side with the katana in the daisho("big-little"), it protected the samurai's honor in confined spaces:castle interiors, tea rooms, close combat where the katana became cumbersome.

Its name, Aonami 青波"blue wave" in Japanese, refers to oceanic reflections and martial simplicity.  

The compact balance of the blade promotes controlindoors and the rapid movementsof iaido/kenjutsu.

Forged According to the Millennial Art of Nihonto

T10 High Carbon Steel

Clay-tempered using the centuries-old yakiba method, this wakizashi develops an authentic hamon—the sinuous temper line that characterizes genuine Japanese swords. Not merely a cosmetic engraving, but a true work of forging where the steel reaches 1050°C before being differentially cooled.

The result:a blade that is both as sharp as the wind and as resilient as bamboo in a storm.

Frame and details

Tsuka(handle) made of hardwood, covered in imitation leatherand with a polyester cord ito(braided grip); length 24 cm. Tsuba/Fuchi/Kashira(guard and fittings) made of plated zinc alloyfor a smooth finish and durability. Saya (scabbard) made of lacqueredhardwood, bound with a quality sageo(cord) for carrying and fastening.

Combat Geometry: Compact Balance

Where the katana reigns supreme outdoors, the wakizashi dominates confined spaces. Its forward center of gravity allows for:

Masters Yagyu and Miyamoto Musashi themselves elevated the wakizashi to the status of a weapon of finesse. Aonami perpetuates their philosophy: less metal, more mastery.
